Students from the Student Leadership Board got to represent GAP School and its YouthBuild program on March 3rd at Youth Day at the Capitol by spending the day at the Minnesota State Capitol building in Saint Paul.

The full day included seeing local legislators, participating in advocacy trainings led by the Minnesota Youth Council, and attending panels and legislative update presentations. They also joined nearly 600 students for a march to the Capitol for a group photo and afternoon activities!

Youth Day at the Capitol (YDAC) gives young people in Minnesota the opportunity to advocate for the issues most important to them. At YDAC, youth develop effective advocacy and leadership skills by meeting with their local elected officials. They use their unique voice to create change where it is most meaningful for them.

The Office of the Secretary of State partners with the Minnesota Alliance With Youth/MN Youth Council, the YMCA's Center for Youth Voice, and other youth development groups to host Youth Day at the Capitol each year.
