Change Inc. Receives a 2023 Leadership Award for Outstanding Commitment to Advancing Green Building

Minneapolis, MN– (September 29, 2023) – Change Inc. announces that they been named a 2023 Leadership Award recipient by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). Change Inc. is one of five recipients from around the world who are using green building and sustainable practices to improve quality of life for those around them. This year’s recipients were recognized at the USGBC Leadership Awards Ceremony taking place on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2023, during the annual Greenbuild conference in Washington, D.C.

"USGBC members serve as the driving force behind the worldwide green building movement, helping push the entire industry to strive for greater efforts in constructing healthier, more sustainable communities," said Peter Templeton, president and CEO of USGBC. "The recipients of this year's Leadership Awards exemplify their unwavering dedication to sustainable solutions, contributing significantly to our collective pursuit of global climate objectives."

Through Change Inc.’s Construction Career Pathway, participants build and/or renovate housing for low-income families in our community while gaining experience in a wide variety of construction skills such as carpentry, electrical, framing, insulation, painting, reading blueprints, and environmentally-sustainable construction practices.

The design of the new construction of the single-family home worksite was created to be Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification eligible and earned Platinum LEED status in August of this year. Project leaders worked closely with the U.S. Green Building Council in Minnesota to both educate program participants as well as work towards gaining LEED certification.

“It is a great honor to receive this award. It’s also a wonderful reward for all the hard work and effort put in by students, staff, and volunteers, who all worked together to complete this project,” said Tony Zahradka, program manager of the Construction Career Pathway.

The 2023 Leadership Award recipients represent some of the best of USGBC’s over 6,000 members, a network of committed professionals with more than 100,000 LEED projects in more than 180 countries and territories around the world. The efforts of the award recipients stand out as exceptional examples of sustainability leadership among a strong and growing network of projects, companies and individuals.
