Adriana Galván Awarded “2024 Outstanding Teacher” for Work with St. Paul Public Libraries

Change Inc. would like to congratulate long-time staff member, Adriana Galván, for being awarded “2024 Outstanding Teacher” by the Coalition on Adult Basic Education (COABE) for her decades of collaboration with the St. Paul Public Libraries.

Saint Paul Public Library, like Change Inc., have been members of the Saint Paul Community Literacy Consortium since the consortium started. It is the first ABE consortium in the State; since then, all SPCLC Members have collaborated on different projects and continue to deliver ABE services. Adriana is a bilingual Spanish-English Digital Literacy Instructor, and “trainer of trainers.”

In training future trainers and teaches digital literacy instruction in collaboration with Saint Paul Public Library and NorthStar, their aim is to close the digital access divide. She has spent endless hours assisting Latino communities to get connected to technical and other resources. “She is exceptionally deserving of this award for her years of advocating, connecting, and speaking truth to power,” said Jody Nelson, Senior Director of Change Institute.

Adriana has worked at Change Inc. For more than 26 years. She is a life-long Cultural and Community Outreach Advocate. Her community outreach work is meant to strengthen community ties and enhance connections between a variety of cultures.

Adriana is a passionate member of Minnesota’s Latino community, and among the wide scope of work she does, she is also involved in facilitating culturally appropriate childcare using the Family, Friend, and Neighbor (FFN) model. Local vaccine awareness campaigns, also led by Adriana, help connect BIPOC families with resources regarding the COVID-19 vaccine and vaccines in general.

Adriana traveled to Nashville at the end of March to attend the COABE 2024 National Conference and receive her award. This honor also came with a $2,000 cash award. Along with Adriana, other award winners are helping advance the field of adult education with their resourcefulness and creativity. “The conference was a great learning opportunity, and I appreciated the opportunity to attend,” said Adriana.
